I admit, all winter I prayed for the warm days of summer like most of us. Now it's here and I'm almost looking forward to the winter again.

Enough Heat! Day after day we've been attacked with this sweltering heat and really no sign of relief in the near future. It's to hot to be outside, it's even to hot to sit at the beach!

Thank goodness for Air Conditioning! Which was not the case when my Wife delivered our third Child at St. Joseph's Hospital last week where the AC was not working most of the night.

Knock off 10 Degrees, Lower the Humidity and then we will all be happy!

Jocelyn Bishop Dead or Alive

Jocelyn Bishop went missing over 10 days ago after getting in a fight with her Boyfriend and has not been heard from since. A few days later, Police find human remains behind the house where Jocelyn Lived and still no word on who's remains they are.

Now I'm no rocket Scientist but putting two and two together I would be pretty safe to but they are the remains of Jocelyn Bishop and taking it a bit further I would expect to see her Boyfriend charged in the Murder of her.

It's tragic really, so young and now no longer with us.

My heart goes out to the Bishop family and they are going to have a tough road ahead trying to accept such a horrific end to Jocelyn's life.

Deceased in Area Fire Still Unknown

Police have still not released or said much more about a body found in a Melbourne area house fire that happened last Friday. The house on Longwoods Rd still remains surrounded with OPP and other units but no more information has surfaced.

The fire started Friday night just before 9pm and took 3 area fire departments to fight it. In the end, the house was destroyed. Police then confirmed that they did find remains of one person inside of the home and said it was not the body of a child and that was it.

Area residents are waiting the release of the victim's identity. Sources say the house had been rented out in the past.

Training Exercise Turns Fatal

Gary Kendall, Dead after Water Rescue Training

A Saturday Water Rescue Training Session turned fatal after a Point Edward Firefighter became trapped under the ice.

51 year old Gary Kendall of Point Edward died Sunday from injuries sustained during the training session.

The firefighters were at Waterfront Park near the Sarnia water treatment plant, when Kendall became trapped under the ice. Other firefighters pulled him from the water and he was treated in hospital, police said.

Due to the incident the ministry of labour has been contacted, and Provincial police are also investigating. This serves as a lesson of the dangers of water rescue in the winter and police advise that people stay off frozen bodies of water.

Mayor makes Brief Appearance at Husband's Court Case

Tim Best, Husband of London Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco appeared in Court facing charges stemming from a wild adventure that took place a year ago. The incident took place Jan 31,2009 as Mr.Best led Police on a wild chase just outside of London that involved 2 hit and runs and a brief foot chase.

Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco did show up later at the Court House but did not stay long. This Appearance was the first to decide if there is enough evidence to proceed with the case against Mr.Best.

Not much information was obtained due to a Publication Ban six charges that include impaired driving but it is known that he is facing at least 6 charges including inpaired driving causing bodily harm, two counts of failing to stop at an accident and dangerous driving.

The big question that we all have to wonder now is what kind of impact will this have on Mayor DeCicco's political career. Personally, I think it will have a very negative impact on Mayor DeCicco as the Mayor and as a Person.

Time will tell as the trail moves forward but I bet one thing is for sure. Mr.Best has been spending a lot of time sleeping on the couch the last while!

Heartless Owner Leaves Nine Puppies at Home Depot

Puppy's Left At Home Depot

Believe it or not, nine puppies were left at the Home Depot on Clarke Rd by some heartless owner. The Puppies were found in good shape but needed cleaning and vet care. The Home Depot Staff took the puppies to the Humane Society a while back where they were taken care of.

On a good note, the Humane Society reports that Four of the Nine Puppies have been adopted which leaves Five left looking for homes. The Pup's seem to be of a Terrier cross and approximatly 13 week old according to Judy Foster of the Humane Society.

The Puppies are fun and full of energy, the staff has even given them names. Hopefully they will all be in homes soon with families that will actually care for them.

Sheldon O'Quinn Dies Homeless and Alone

Sheldon O'Quinn died homeless and alone after being found around noon on Wednesday blocked by a small brick wall in McMahen Park. The spot used frequently for homeless who sometimes sleep in the park.

O'Quinn, 44 to most was just a homeless guy who bounced around local missions and occasionally lived on the street. It wasn't always that way for Sheldon. He had a full time job, friends and co-workers that he enjoyed having fun with. He lived in an apartment with his cats. From that his life fell apart and somehow Sheldon slipped beteen the cracks and died homeless and alone.

Could Sheldon's Death been preventable and our we doing enough for the homeless during the cold winter? These are questions that need to be asked, maybe Sheldon's death could have been avoided.

To have it all at one time of your life and then leave the world a nobody is a real sad way to go.

Christmas in the Forest City 2009

HO,HO Where was the Snow??

Well it came and it went, Christmas in the Forest City 2009 is now behind us as we get ready to roll in to the New Year. Even though the timing of the Snow was a little late it was a good Christmas ending a Year that a lot of us and glad to be done with.

With the Auto Industry slowly gaining momentem once again I really think that 2010 will be a decent year for all of us. Saying that, we still have a few months of struggle ahead.

Many of us who got laid off or lost their jobs will have to put on a smile, go out with confidence and start again. It's not easy but at the same time, it's not impossible.

I wish you all an amazing New Year and thanks for stopping by my little Blog that I will TRY to update on a more regular basis.

FREE TRANSIT THIS WEEKEND!

LTC is Free!
As a token of appreciation for all of the LTC patrons stranded during the strike. The London Transit Commission will be offering free Bus Service this weekend!

That's great news for the thousands of People stuck everyday looking for alternative transportation while the strike was going on.

As for the bus pass holders, we'll have to see if the LTC will do anything to credit them for the weeks of no Service.

I would expect the malls will be even busier this weekend due to the free service so be prepared! Personally I don't always agree or support stikes of this nature but one thing is for sure, we're glad it's over!

H1N1 - What Happened

First off, you must remember that as scary at the H1N1 virus threat is, it's minor compared to what could happen some day. The sad part of this is that we've been told for months Ontario is ready to handle a pandemic and look what happened.

We could even get throught the first round of immunization, were we really ready?

What if this was a much stronger strain that spead even more rapidly, we would all be doomed! It's very scary, look around. There are people walking the streets like we are in a third world country. All the great medical breakthroughs and we can not even contain the flu.

If you ask me this wasn't taken serious enough and now we are paying the piper. To date 3 people in our area have died of the H1N1 strain, how many will this be in a few months from now? Also, how good is injecting yourself with the flu anyway? I've never been a fan of the flu shot myself, infact I really believe it makes things worse the next time round.

Regardless, we have to go with our instincts and do what we think is best.

Bus Blows Up in London Neighbourhood

It's not everyday you see a LTC Bus engulfed in flames but that's what happened yesterday on Aldersbrook Rd. near Hawthorne Ave. in the Cities Northwest.

Luckily the Driver and sole passenger escaped uninjured in the fire that seemed to start just behind the Drivers Seat.

It was a huge fire as shown in the London Free Press this morning with one neighbour quoting "It was interesting," he said, noting it's the most excitement he's seen in the neighbourhood.

The cause of the fire is unknown but an investigation is underway as well as inspection of the 41 others that may have the same flaw.

Value of the Winnipeg built Inverto bus is about $470,000 and the bus is about 8-10 years old.

STAFFORD TRIBUTE ENDS

It's been a long road for Rodney Stafford after losing his Daughter Victoria who was abducted and murdered earlier this year.

Stafford had set out on a bike riding thousands of kilometers in tribute to his Daughter while raising money for ChildFind along the way.

The 45 day journey ended in Jasper National Park where Victoria once stood on a family vacation back in 2008. There he released a purple balloon atop of Whistler Mountain.

The 3,453 Kilometer journey was part on the healing process that Stafford needed in dealing with such a tragic event remember great times he had with Victoria along his ride.

Rodney hopes that his ride will raise awareness for child safety and prevent this from happening to another child.

He was overwhelmed but the support of people along the way. Some offering him a place to stay, food and others just saying "thank-you"

Looking back, Rodney can be proud of himself and remember that he did make a difference.

His Journey raised $22,000 ChildFind.

WESTERN FAIR A SUCCESS

WESTERN FAIR ORGANIZERS COULDN'T ASK FOR BETTER

Sunday marked the last day of what may be one of the best weather years for the Western Fair.

This years the fair did not experience any rain and with seasonal temperatures the attendance levels were high.

Final attendance numbers for the fair were not available yet but are expected to be very high.More than 35,000 people walked through the gates Saturday, compared to 15,600 on the same day last year and it looked like attendance numbers would hit 30,000 yesterday, compared to 24,724 on the final fair day last year.

Topping the favourite rides this year was the "skyride" the runs 12 meters above the fair. A ride that the whole family can enjoy.

This year the fair brought great shows, great rides and of coarse great food! This year's favourite was Bacon with Chocolate Sauce.

It's come and gone but this year's Western Fair may just be remembered as the best year ever and a great end to Summer 2009.

I've never really understood what satisfaction someone gets out of setting a fire and distroying somthing, not to mention risking innocent lives. Once again Arsonists are hard at it in the Forest City and Police are no closer to finding out who is involved.

Over $300,000 dollars in damage, IN ONE NIGHT! It's getting really scary and the people of London should really keep an eye out and be sure to report any suspicious behaviour in and around your area.

Check your Smoke Alarms!

Another topic that keeps popping up is smoke detectors not working! Come on, a battery isn't that expensive and I would hop your life is worth at least that. Pick one or 2 times a year and change the damn things, even if they are ok.

Until Police catch the Arsonist(s) involved nobody is safe so protect yourself.

A Sweet Labour Day Weekend

Even though this is the last weekend of Summer it was Picture Perfect. Sunny and Warm was the forcast right through the long Weekend and that's what we got.

For some people it was the last Camping Trip while others ventured off to the Beach to beat the heat. What ever you did the weather was perfect!

The CNE

For me it was the Canadian National Exhibition Airshow in Toronto where we were treated to and clear sky filled with various types of Aircraft. A Special Appearance by the USAF Blue Angels added great excitement to the Airshow. As always the Canadian Snowbirds rapped up the event as only they can.

Hopefully this is just a taste of what September will be like this year, and maybe October also! Tomorrow will be back in the grove with the little tykes going back to School.

Jennifer Sinn Released

She kept the bodies of three infants in her House and now She's let go on $50,000 bail. Who says money can't talk.

Jennifer Sinn accused of this "weird" case was released but under strict conditions yesterday.
Sinn faces three counts each of causing an indignity to a body and concealing the body of a child.

The charges were laid after the remains of three infants were discovered in her London, Ont., home in June.

It's kind of an unsettling feeling knowing someone who could do such a thing could be released on bail but "innocent until proven guilty" I guess?

KISS ARMY RIGHT IN LONDON

KISS FANS CAMP OUT FOR TICKETS

The KISS Army is right here in London as Fans camped out overnight to be the first at the Box Office for tickets to their favourite band.

Young and Old showed up for tickets with some seeing KISS over 20 times! These Guys really have done well. I don't think their is anyone on this earth who haven't heard of Kiss. Even my young Children know of the band as they appeared on a Cartoon episode of Scooby-Doo.

Loud Rock and Roll, Fire and Pyrotechniques and front man Gene Simmons keep these KISS Fans coming back again and again.

The show will take place at the John Labatt Center September 29th and the bulk of the Tickets sold out in less than 2 Hours.

This will be the bands first appearance in London in almost 20 Years.

Labour Day Laws

London Police warn that they will be on the lookout for retailers breaking the Statutory Holiday Law and remaining open on Labour Day. They will also rely on Citizens of London to reports any stores in violation of the Holiday Act.

Small Stores that sell Tobacco,Antiques, Handcrafts and Books are permitted as well as Gas Stations and small stores selling Automotive Products.

Retailers are reminded that breaking this Law will carry a $500.00 fine first offence and $50,000 for further offences or the Gross Sales from that day. In short, if you are suppose to be closed then stay closed.

In the past Retailers have ignored this Labour Day Law and even if fined it was still worth it to be open.

Is the Law Fair?

It doesn't seem like a very fair ruling. Some Stores can be open, Some can't, if you sell this you can't , if you don't you can't. What I get out of the Law is that if you seel something the Government makes a killing on by overtaxing (Smokes, Gas,etc.) you are ok to be open. Another fine Canadian Law!

The Time Travellers Wife

Being Friday we decided to take in a movie and ended up seeing " The Time Travellers Wife" and I'll have to say it was really good.

Going into the movie I thought this would be a total "chick flick" but great acting along with a storyline to match kept me interested right to the end.

This was our first time going to the new Westmount Theater so we went to the VIP show. It was very nice and the reclining seat made watching the movie very enjoyable. Who would of thought you could sit, watch a movie and have a beer at the same time.

The Time Travellers wife may not be for the whole family but for a couple looking for a nice night out I would recommend it.

Garbage Trucks Pose Highway Hazard

Again, another Toronto garbage truck heading to the US has flipped on the 402 Highway by Kerwood RD. Seems like this is becoming a regular occurrence. The question is, how do we stop this before someone gets seriously injured.

At first I though it may be a design flaw with the trucks they are hauling with. Later I found out that the Garbage Trucks are flipping both loaded and empty which means it;s the drivers.

The 400 series highways are becoming more and more dangerous and something has to be done. Allowing these trucks to roll through are area is one thing but causing a hazard on the road is another.

Drivers of these trucks need to be properly trained before doing this US run. I also think is a good idea to govern the top speed of the trucks, this would cut rollovers dramatically.

London Police Attacked for using Force

It seems like every time the London Police get into an altercation where force is required they become targets themselves. There are times when the Police may need to use guns, that's why they have them. Most Police Officers will tell you that the last thing they want to do is use their guns but sometimes there is no other option.

If an Officer feels that their life or the lives of others is in danger then they should have every right to use their weapon. There should be no nonsense afterwards about if they should or shouldn't have, we we not there to judge.

These people are just like you and I, they have families and enjoy living life. The job is stressful enough without all the accusations and media crap that goes on every time these instances happen. If you thing that Officers are not using there weapons properly then maybe leave your number and next time they are in a life threatening situation you can take over.

These men and women go through extensive training and know how to handle these situations. Stick to your jobs and just be thankful that the London Police are out there everyday looking after you!

Rodney Stafford Bike Ride

In memory of his Daughter Victoria, Rodney Stafford has set out to Cycle across Canada in her honour.

Total strangers can't help but feel for the man they have grown to know from the media coverage of this horrific event.

One woman was shaking after meeting Rodney "I feel for him. It must be tough." she said.

The money raised by this ride will go to child find. Along with money Rodney has also been offered kind words and in one case, lunch.

Stafford is grateful for every ones support in helping him deal with the loss of Victoria.

City Under Attack

City Under Attack

The public is still waiting for answers on a gun battle involving Police that rocked the Cities East End.

Unconfirmed reports are that a City Police Officer fired 19 shots at a suspect connected to a spree of robberies. Nobody was injured in the incident but there was damage to property from stray bullets.

Police Chief Murray Falconer has stated that results of this incident will be made public but may take a few weeks to sort out.

The Public seems to be mixed on this incident, some expressing concern over excessive force while others side with the Officer involved.

Paul Wayne O'Connell, 37, of London, is charged with four counts of robbery, three counts of wearing a disguise, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, obstructing police and failing to stop for police.

He remains in custody, scheduled to return to court Aug. 25
It was the second shooting by London police officers this year. On Jan. 15, Joseph Barnes, 26, was shot twice by police at an Oakville Ave. apartment complex when he pointed a replica gun at police officers who'd gone there to arrest him for a violent robbery a week earlier. The officers were cleared of any wrongdoing.

As London grows so does the crime rate and intensity of these situations. In my opinion Officers are already out numbered and out powered by these thugs and they must do whatever they can to take care of themselves out there.

Wayne Scott Ray Arrested on Child Porn

Wayne Scott Ray, London Poet was arrested Thursday evening for making and distributing child pornography.

Scott, 58 appeared in court on the charges today after London Police received tips from the RCMP child-exploitation center.

Ray is the founder of HMS Press and also the co-founder of the Canadian Poetry Association. He is also credited with helping to establish the London Arts Council in the city.

Waldo's On King - Good Food

I know this is not a Restaurant Review Blog but I have always believed that good,hard work should get recognition and that's what I am going to do.

My wife and I went out on the weekend to Waldo's on King, it was about the third time we have been. For those who don't know Waldo's, it is located right in the London Market across from the John Labatt Center.

We go out to eat a lot and have tried most of the better Restaurants in the city. What my Wife and I like about Waldo's is knowing that no matter what we have there it will be excellent. Great Food, Great Staff combined with a nice peaceful atmosphere and you have Waldo's on King.

I think we would both agree that Waldo's is one of the finest London Restaurants if not the finest. The Steak is to die for and my wife just loves the seafood. You can tell that they take full advantage of being situated in the Market because everything and I mean EVERYTHING is fresh at Waldo's.

Next time you are out and looking for something new, try Waldo's on King and see for yourself what an amazing Restaurant it is.

One more tip for you!

Even though the appetizers and main courses are so good, leave room for dessert because it is also really, really good.

August Heats Up

Well, we didn't really get a good start on summer 2009 but things are about to change.

July was cool and very unseasonable that's for sure but they say you take the good with the bad. Well this summer we were kind of reverse, we've taken the bad and now it's finally time for some good.

Looking at the Environment Canada forecast it seems our prayers have been answered because warm weather is on its way. There is a little rain in the forecast but that's over shadowed by all the sunny skies!

Beach Bums, Sun Tanners get ready because the heat is finally coming.

Just a reminder to block up when you are out in the sun, it only takes a few minutes to burn out there.

City Sick Days are Crazy

I just can't believe the average sick days these city workers are taking off. The crazy thing is that they are allowed to take more sick days in a year than I have in the last 12 years!

If I had an employee that averaged 15-20 days a year off sick I would be looking for someone more reliable. Come on Mayor DeCicco, surly you can't support this nonsense in London. Some of these workers should be put into real everyday jobs and see what it's like out there.

These systems have been so abused for way to long and it's time for a positive change. As for the Unions, in time will we all find out that they are doing more damage then good.

Sick days are for days you are sick, not for fishing,drinking,parties and so on. If you are not serious about the job you are doing then leave and let one of the other hundred people who need work do it.

The day will come when people will have to work to keep there jobs, no guardian angles (Unions) to look over them. Employees will need to represent themselves and make the employers want to keep them. Until then, I really hope the city employees look at this as a new start and quit milking the taxpayers.

London, A Growing City

Driving through London is sure a lot different than it was 20 years ago. I remember going to the old market with my Grandmother to buy fresh meats and bread.

The old CN Building where my Parents both worked is now a smaller train station. The core area now boasts big buildings like the John Labatt Center, One London Place and more.

With all the change it is still nice to see some places that bring back good memories like Victoria Park and all the winter skating we use to do, the big hill across from St. Josephs that we enjoyed tobogganing on.

London is big big city now, like it or not. It's grow and is still growing. The corn field that was at the end of our street in the east end is now a huge subdivision.

Do you think London will someday look and operate just like Toronto? There are already signs that it may. Look at the gangs that hang out in the malls, and the increase in violence.

There is also substantial growth in the ethnic community as is in Toronto, not a bad thing it's just an observation.

Is London ready to deal with this though? Toronto have the police, workers and manpower to handle it but does London? I already see there streets falling apart, the neglected sewer systems etc.

Growing up I really loved the city as I do now. The only difference now is that I love it from an outside view.

H1N1 Spreads Through London

H1N1 circulating in London

There has now been 18 lab-confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in the London area according to London-Middlesex Health Unit. On top of that are 14 cases confirmed of the influenza Abut are not thought to be the same virus.

With school being out for the summer it is hard to get exact totals on the H1N1 situation but officals are asking camps and other community gatherings to keep an eye on there attendance.

Couple Charged with Counterfeit Money

Couple charged with counterfeit money
Police have charged a man and woman after seizing more than $2,000 in counterfeit money last week.
London police arrested the two suspects, Darryl Shoebottom, 36, and Barbara Crafts, 35, on outstanding warrants, July 20.
"As a result of this arrest they are both being charged jointly with possession of counterfeit money under Section 450(b) of the Criminal Code," police said, adding the $2,000-plus dollars in counterfeit money seized was in various denominations.
"While the incidents of counterfeit money in the London area have declined merchants are reminded to be vigilant," police said.
Shoebottom is additionally facing four drug charges in relation to drugs obtained using fake prescriptions, police said.

Party Leads to Stabbings

Large Party Turns Violent

Things got out of hand as a large party turned violent on Saturday.

London Police Officers were called to the Cities Northwest at about 10:30pm after a fight between a group of males started to get out of hand and ended up with 2 people being stabbed.

One of the victims was stabbed in the back twice with a broken beer bottle and the other stabbed in the head with a knife. Injuries are reported to be non-life threatening according to London Police.

Charged with assault is 19 year old Carlos Platero of London along with a youth who can not be identified. The youth is also charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana.

Doug Lucio Wants Answers in Son's Death

With 2 years gone by Doug Lucio, Father of murdered Police officer Dave is looking for answers.
Dave Lucio was killed in a murder-suicide by fellow officer Kelly Johnson. "People have a right to know and my wife and I have a right to know what happened here," said Doug Lucio, 83. "I'm going to continue to live until I get something done -- not for my sake, but for my son. It's just eating away at my heart."

A spokesperson for the Ontario chief coroner's office says the information, including a report prepared by an expert panel that was then reviewed by the Ontario Domestic Violence Death Review Committee, is being reviewed by a supervising regional coroner from outside London.
That official will decide if an inquest is to be held.

Lucio was shot by Johnson as he pulled up to her Picton St. condominium building. Johnson then used her 9-mm service pistol on herself.

A police investigation revealed Lucio had broken off a two-year relationship with Johnson three days before the shooting and a day after Johnson was promoted to acting inspector.
Police Chief Murray Faulkner called in a panel of experts to review the murder-suicide to determine if it could have been predicted or prevented and promised their report would be released to the public.

On May 29, 2008, the three-member panel released an 11-page report, an executive summary, that concluded the murder-suicide was "neither predictable nor preventable" -- a conclusion based on four key findings:
Although Johnson was in counselling and seeing a doctor, she was "non-compliant" and rejected medication.

Johnson was diagnosed as depressed, but not viewed by doctors as a threat to herself or others.
Lucio, a "highly skilled" retired senior officer, suspected nothing, despite the recent breakup.
Johnson continued to get positive evaluations from superiors and peers and was promoted to acting inspector four days before the shooting.

During its review, the panel amassed hundreds of pages of information, including interviews that have not been released due to concerns about patient confidentiality and privacy issues.

A 60-page report was prepared for police, but only the executive summary was released to the public.

It's that information Doug Lucio hopes will be revealed at an inquest to determine if there are systemic problems in the police force and who knew what and when.

Lucio has repeatedly suggested the investigation and panel report were a "cover-up."
"Something screwy is going on," he said, referring to cases in recent years in which police are repeatedly exonerated for their actions, even when later inquiries raise questions.

He pointed to the case of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski, who died at Vancouver's airport in October 2007 after being shot five times with a Taser stun gun and wrestled to the ground by four RCMP officers, who said they felt threatened by Dziekanski when he picked up a stapler.
Prosecutors in B.C. in December said the officers wouldn't face criminal charges, saying their use of force was justified in the circumstances.

But during the inquiry, that evidence was disputed by a witness video of Dziekanski's dying moments.

"There's something definitely wrong with policing in Ontario and Canada," said Lucio. "And unless something is done, nothing is going to get straightened up in this city or Ontario. It's still going on."

The panel said although Kelly Johnson hid or "masked" her deteriorating mental condition, there were symptoms and issues pointing to trouble. These included alcohol abuse, could not sleep, an inability to cope with the dealth of her three years earlier, job stress, including the recent promotion, and the breakup with officer Lucio.

Adopted Children Cleared to Arrive

23 Adopted Ethiopian Children approved to Arrive

Great news for the families who paid up to $20,000 to adopt some children from Ethiopia.

The 23 Ethiopian Children mixed up in the Bankruptcy of a Cambridge Adoption Agency have been ok'd to come, told by Youth Minister Deb Matthews.

Yamana Gold, a Toronto mining company, has given $100,000 to ensure the continued operation of the orphanage where those children are being cared for in Ethiopia. The donation was announced by the trustee handling the bankruptcy.

Rob Eagleson, a spokesperson for the London families that met with Matthews last night, said the mood of the group is positive.

"We are excited. We have hope," Eagleson said.

A critical meeting for the estimated 350 other families affected by the July 14 financial collapse of Imagine Adoption is today with trustees of the company.

"We are going to do everything we possibly can to support a reconstituted agency so all the work that has been done is preserved," said Matthews, noting her ministry has kept the agency's licence intact.

Eagleson said a big factor will be the financial numbers the trustees reveal.
"We are hopeful coming out of tomorrow that Imagine Adoption will be back as strong as it ever was and the families will all have babies home in the very near future," he said.

Matthews has promised that pre-adoption parental home study programs required to meet provincial standards will be transferable to other agencies.

Imagine Adoption was the only one in Ethiopia licensed to arrange adoptions in Ontario, she said. It won't license others here, "but has not pulled the accreditation . . . so it is important that we do nothing to jeopardize that status."

During her recent talk with Jason Kenney, Matthews said the federal Citizenship and Immigration Minister assured her of help.

There were approximately 170 Ontario families that paid up to $20,000 each to adopt youngsters from several countries, mainly Ethiopia.

Via Rail Back on Track

The Via trains will be back up and running later today according to a Via Spokesman.

The company issued a statement early Sunday morning announcing it had reached an agreement with the union representing its striking locomotive engineers to enter into binding arbitration.

Paul Cote, Via's president and chief executive officer, says service will resume starting late Sunday, with full service on most routes by Monday morning.

Layoffs of other unionized Via employees prompted by the engineer's strike are also cancelled.

The 343 engineers, members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, walked out Friday, paralyzing passenger train service across Canada.

Via Rail Strike Leads to Layoffs

Those planning to Ride the Train may have to wait a while.

The Employees of Via rail working in various service and station positions will be given layoff notices after the strike began on Friday, said Via spokesman Malcolm Andrews.

"Those layoffs, of course, are temporary, and all of those employees would be immediately called back to work as soon as the work stoppage was over,"

He added that as many as 400 additional employees may lose work if the strike drags on. Via has about 3,100 employees in total, including union staff and management.
Via's 340 unionized locomotive engineers walked off the job Friday shortly after a noon deadline passed without a new contract.

Via and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference union had been engaged in intense talks all week in an attempt to prevent a strike. However, talks broke down late Thursday night. The engineers have been without a contract since Dec. 31, 2006.

"Via remains optimistic that this shut down of Canada's passenger rail system will be of short duration, and that service will resume as soon as possible," Andrews said in a telephone interview.

"On that end, Via and representatives of the Teamsters Canada union have been meeting with the federally appointed mediator throughout the day today in order to find a solution to the issues at hand."

The strike threatens to disrupt thousands of Canadians' summer vacation plans. Via carries nearly 12,000 passengers each day in Canada. As much as 85 per cent of business is between Quebec City and Windsor, Ont.

Passengers can receive refunds for any unused tickets, according to a statement on the company's website.

When asked about the layoffs, Transport Minister John Baird said that the government's top priority is getting service up and running again.

"Obviously, Via is not able to run the trains during the labour disruption, and that has consequences. I think what the important thing is, both parties are at the table working with the federal mediator," he said.

The strike has also raised concern that travellers will look elsewhere in the long-term, said Baird.

"The real concern I have ... is that we will lose customers from Via," he said, noting that the government wants to see an increase in train travel, not a decrease.
"We don't anything that would send mixed messages to Canadians (and) would see reduction in service," he said.

The last Via rail strike was in 1995 and lasted a total of 9 days.

Woman Found Naked in Field

Woman,34 Found Naked in Field

Opp Police say that a 34-year old Woman had been found naked in a field by the 401. The in identified lady appeared to be a victim of a sexual assault.

An investigation is under way to find out exactly what happened and how the lady ended up in a field at the end of Wonderland Rd.S

The lady who is in fair condition did know the assailant and Police assured the Public there is no predator on the loose.

A citizen spotted the woman shortly before 6 a.m. and called police.
Ontario Provincial Police located the woman, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

We are expected to find out more on the sexual assault in a few days.

Via Rail is off the Tracks

Via Rail off the tracks

Via rail engineers walked off the job yesterday afternoon after failing to work out an agreement before the strike date.

The strike will cripple most of the passenger services right across Canada.

The Via Rail Service had to bus passengers to there destinations yesterday and all further ticket sales are suspended.

The Government have not shown interest in intervening in this matter although they are watching it closely.

Alternative transportation companies are taking advantage of this situation by increasing there services until the strike is over.

TORI STAFFORD FOUND

It looks like Police will be holding a news conference today to announce that the remains of Tori Stafford have been found. Although this finally provides closure for the family and friends of the little girl it crushes the hopes and prayer that Tori may be alive waiting to be found.

The remains were found close to Mt.Forest about 65kms from the area that convicted accomplice Terri-Lynne McClintic led the police to.

It's was a lucky break for the police as one of the officers drove down the 6th concession of Authur township based on a hunch, he then made the sad discovery of Tori's remains.

Michael Rafferty, 28, and Terri-Lynne McClintic, 18, both of Woodstock, are charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in the disappearance.

Police wouldn't say if the remains were found buried or on the ground, or which officer found them.

But OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino confirmed to Sun Media the officer was OPP Det.-Sgt. Jim Smyth, a 21-year veteran of the force.

Smyth, who works in the OPP's polygraph and behavioural sciences unit, said he hopes the little Woodstock girl's family finds some peace. "It's an unfortunate situation but hopefully it brings some relief to her family."

Fantino praised Smyth and others for their hard work.

"He is like all of the police officers on this case who worked extra hard and never left any stone unturned," Fantino said. "There was no luck involved -- this was planned and deliberate police work with a group of people led by Det.-Sgt. Smyth, who were following up every lead and re-tracking in certain areas.

"He will tell you himself it's not an individual thing, but a situation where police and the public from all over participated in trying to find her," Fantino said.

Police will hold a news conference later today where they are expected to confirm the the remains of Tori Stafford have been found.

THE SUMMERTIME BLUES

This year I think most of us are experiencing the summertime blues. Why? It's because we haven't had any real summer weather yet. Sure we've had a few nice days but that's all. This is not the great weather we've grown to love living in Southwestern Ontario, it's September weather in July!

I'm writing this article here looking out over the lake in Grand Bend just wondering when the good stuff will be here to stay, summer is short enough as it is. I feel sorry for all these little beach front stores that relay on hot weather and large crowds to pay their bills.

Environment Canada has assured us that summer weather will arrive next week but i don't know, we'll have to see it to believe it.

As for now I will just keep staring out at the lake with the summertime blues wondering when it will actually be warm enough to enjoy!

TIM BEST, TROUBLED TIMES

Things don't seem to be looking to good for Timothy Best, Husband of London Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco. I've written a few articles on Tim and even poked fun at him once and a while myself but honestly, it's got to be tough living in his shoes.

Being the Mayor's Husband really puts him under the spotlight automatically and then when something goes wrong the media eats it all up. Word on the street is that Tim Best is a pretty good guy who just had a real bad day. This doesn't excuse him for what happened but just a reminder that he is human just like the rest of us.

Police are involved in chases almost everyday but we don't always here about them because they are just people. So maybe being "famous" isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes, especially when things go wrong!

Tim Best screwed up, he knows that, we know that, heck everybody knows that. Was it an 11 million dollar mistake? That will be up to the courts to decide after the Husband of London Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco is being sued by Lisa Dixon of London.

Mrs.Dixon states that her vehicle was slammed into by Mr.Best on the highway the night of the chase which has resulted in permanent injuries to her and her family.
This lady is spun, I defiantly think she must of hit her head and has now lost all sense of logic.

She wants 10.75 million for herself and an addition $200,000 for all members of her family. This has to be a joke, where the hell is she coming up with these figures?
Tim screwed up big time that night, no doubt about it. He is human though and we all screw up once and a while. I don't remember hearing that anyone was critically injured in the chase just a few vehicles damaged.

This is just another case of greed where someone takes advantage of a situation to pad their pockets. This is the Mayors Husband that hit you lady, not Donald Trump. Get serious!
Greed does evil things to people if they let it, this is a sad case of greed mixed with insanity, I feel sorry for you Mrs.Dixon, the chances of you getting this are even less than my chances of winning the 649. On top of that you are making a fool of yourself.

I'm sure Mr. Best is very sorry for what he has done and will pay the piper for it. As for you Mrs.Dixon I feel sorry as well. By the amount you are suing for I will assume you were left blind or permanently paralyzed from this collision prompting for such a high compensation.

King of Pop, Dead at 50

Michael Jackson the self proclaimed "King of Pop" has died at the age of 50. EMS responded to a call at Jackson's LA residence and found the singer not breathing. CPR was performed on scene and Michael was transported to the hospital.

The cause of death has not been determined at this time.

Michael's Bizarre life created endless supply of material for the media to report on.

Regardless of what what said about the Man his contributions to music and the world remain unmatched. Now all the noise in his world will stop and maybe he can finally enjoy the happiness he desperately strived to achieve.

Tori Stafford, Where is She

Tori Stafford, a name that dominated the media almost every minute of everyday now just a memory. With suspects in custody, court dates set there is still one thing missing. Where is Tori Stafford?

You really don't hear to much about her anymore. The odd time we hear the police are still looking for the remains of the little girl and that's about all.

It strange that the police are 100% sure she is deceased but really have no clue where the little girl lies.

It must be very hard for the family to accept she is gone with no physical evidence supporting the outcome. The whole Tori Stafford story has been very sad and was really a wake up call that this kind can happen anywhere at anytime.

Look after your children and let them know everyday how much they mean to you because in a heartbeat things can change.

Wings&Wheels Flying High Again

Being an Airshow buff I decided to give myself a Fathers Day Gift and to the Wings and Wheels Airshow in St.Thomas this past weekend. Going in to the weekend the weather did not seem like it was going to be very good but one thing I have learned is that can change quickly.

Saturday was rough starting off but then cleared up enough to get the Airshow off the ground. Even though the show was delayed and abbreviated it was still a good one.

Sunday was excellent! Great weather along with an amazing list of performers made this airshow one that will be remembered for a long time to come.

We may not have the London Airshow anymore but those missing it will find the St.Thomas set up even better. I find you are closer to the show than ever and airspace seems better there as well.

Hopefully we will see a Wings and Wheels 3 in the future!!

LONDON ROADS A NIGHTMARE

What a Mess

On Monday I had to go into the City and I could not believe the mess that London is in right now. A person can not go anywhere without running in to Road Construction. It happened that I was in the Exeter Rd/Bradley Rd area and it was horrible. Long waits, signs not posted far enough a head caused major confusion on the road.

One has to wonder why this stuff was let go so long? Timing my little experience on Monday I discovered that I can drive from Strathroy to London in less time than I can cross the City, that's the truth.

London on a good day has major traffic issues so this road work is not helping. It's easy to see how Road Rage starts when one has to deal with this kind of stuff.

Hopefully when all is said and done the city gets these roads into good shape, stops these water mains from bursting and what ever else they are doing. Maybe it's a good think that the City has ditched almost every Summer Event they use to have because nobody likes sitting in traffic jams.

SNOWBIRDS REMAIN GROUNDED

Those anxious to see the Canadian Snowbirds fly over the skies in London will have to wait. The Snowbirds still remain on an operational pause after a problem was found in the planes ejection seats last week.

The team is scheduled to perform at the 2nd Wings and Wheels Airshow taking place in St. Thomas this weekend. At this time there in no confirmation that the Snowbirds will be at the show.

Although the fate of the team is still unknown, the Wings and Wheels airshow is still a go.

How to Survive the Recession

As more and more people lose their jobs or get their hours cut back at work people are really starting to come to terms that this is no joke, we are experiencing tough times. There are still some under the illusion that it is not that bad or that it is just in the Automotive Sector but that's not true.

So what do you do if this happens to you?

First off and I know this will sound impossible - Don't Panic, the good thing is that the problem is wide spread and because of that there is help.

Then you must examine the Situation. Are you laid off, is this temporary, do you have a back up plan for now. Most people do not have a plan because they were under the impression " this won't happen to me"

What do you have to offer and who do you know. There are still some industries like Construction that are actually doing quite well right now and you just may land a job in one of these. Remember that the job won't come to you, a little effort is needed in order for you to push ahead.

Don't expect the world on a platter. If you do find a new job there is a change you may not make what you were, this is where some people say "no" or "walk away" instead of using their brains and being thankful that they have an opportunity to work.

If you are a home owner or bill payer like most the the adult world people you owe are willing to work with you and help in tough times but you must communicate with them. Some people just stop paying bills or making mortgage payments DON"T!! This will catch up with you and ruin the solid relationship that you have built with these people.

If have have to cut back on some of the luxuries in life for a while so be it. This economic crunch will not last for ever so suck it up and live lean for a while.

Most of all do not let this ruin your family because they should be the most important thing to you. A strong family will conquer any obstacle thrown at them and that is exactly what this is an obstacle.

Where is Tori Stafford?

You would think if Police had enough evidence to charge someone with first degree murder they would have some idea where to find a body, correct? This is not the case as the search for the body of Tori Stafford continues with no real sign that Police are getting anywhere.

Even one of the accused could not lead Police to the remains. Terri-Lynne McClintic was granted permission to help lead Police to Tori's remains but after a few days of searching there was nothing found.

Who knows what to believe in this case that has been weird right from the beginning. If police don't know where Tori's remains are then how do they even know she is dead? Lack of information given to the public will certainly be a topic addressed once this case is closed.

As for Tori Stafford, my heart goes out to the family that really can't have closure until Tori is found.

TORI'S REMAINS NOT FOUND

Police are still looking for the remains of 8 year old Tori Stafford after 2 suspects were arrested and charged with the murder of the Woodstock Girl.

This case has been weird right from go and yet again another oddity. They have arrested the suspects on murder charges yet have no idea where Tori Stafford's body lies. To get any more info out of the Police at this time is impossible.

Police have been searching in an area outside of Guelph and reportedly had taken Terri-Lynne McClintic on of the suspects in the case to pinpoint where the body is. This has been going on for 2 full days now and still no sign.

We have still not heard any word from Tori's Mother Tara McDonald since the charges were laid. There are stories that Tara is very upset by the way Police had accused Her and Her Family on the Abduction.

TORI STAFFORD MURDERED

With great sadness it has been announced today that 2 people have been arrested in connection with the abduction of 8 year old Tori Stafford and have been charged with murdering the girl.

New broke this morning and then spread like wild fire throughout the day as details of the case began to hit the media. Apparently these people are known to Tori's Mother Tara McDonald but they did not know the girl was her's at the time of the Abduction.

Police have been searching the Guelph area to recover the body of Tori, I have unconfirmed reports that a body has been found but nothing from Police at this time.

This Abduction was not a random act but an "opportunistic crime" and Tori may have allegedly been sought for "nefarious" or sexual purposes. It can't get any sicker than this.

Being a father this just makes me sick and frustrated that this kind of stuff actually goes on in our world. This little girl did nothing wrong to anybody and has now been robbed of her life, why?

Terri-Lynn McClintic, 18, is charged with abducting Stafford from her parents Tara McDonald and Rodney Stafford. She was also read charges of assisting Michael Thomas C. S. Rafferty in escaping the area.

Rafferty, 28, was also read charges of having abducted Stafford, and then, in Woodstock and elsewhere in Ontario, having murdered her. McClintic was read a third charge of having been an accessory to murder after the fact.

A very,very sad day for us all, my heart and prayers go out to the Stafford/McDonald families at this time.

IS TORI STAFFORD STILL ALIVE?

It's been a month now since 8 year old Tori Stafford went missing after leaving her school in Woodstock Ontario and there is still no sign of the little girl. As time goes by the chances of finding Tori alive will start to diminish.

Police still seem to be focusing around friends and family in this strange case where nothing really makes sense. Tori's Mother Tara McDonald is blasting out at people like me who are speculating on what happened to her Daughter but that's to bad.

I feel this is a case where we are only getting fed certain information and not everything the Police know about this abduction. I'm sure they have their reasons for doing so.

With Mothers Day approaching I would be keeping an eye on every move Tara McDonald makes, phone calls, friends, contacts etc. All people involved are starting to get worn down and I really think one of them will slip one of these days and Tori's mystery will be solved.

Tara would like to broaden the search beyond Woodstock but that's just to get the pressure off of her for a while.

Tori will be found close to home, hopefully alive. In the end I also think that this will be a family involved abduction based on everything that has gone on and also Tori's willingness to follow the woman seen in the video.

In the mean time I am appalled that we are making Tara McDonald a media celebrity with these stupid interviews everyday, she is enjoying every minute of the fame and shouldn't be. At no time has she really looked like a Mother who has lose her little girl. She has the acting skills of Paris Hilton at best and should really give up the spotlight.

Our prayers go out to the safe return of Tori and hopes that the "abductors" will do the right thing and turn over the girl to police.

Tara McDonald is Hiding Something

Tara McDonald, Mother of missing 8 year old Tori Stafford claims of going on a secret Limo ride to Toronto meeting a total stranger that has offered to post whatever ransom necessary to get Tori back from her abductors.

This whole Tori Stafford disappearance is to strange and as I have speculated all along Tara McDonald knows what happened to Tori. She not once has looked or behaved like a Mother who has lost her little girl, I think she loves the media attention.

This whole ransom story is crazy. Why would she jump into a strange limo in the first place not knowing where she was going, that's really smart. In the end I am certain Tara McDonald will be linked to the Abduction of Tori Stafford, she will slip up on something and get caught.

Tara's "media tears" may fool some but there is just an strange emptiness when she talks about Tori missing, almost like it's just a business deal that needs to be resolved.

Tara McDonald knows where Tori is and the only thing I do believe out of that lady's mouth is that Tori is still alive. The problem is who ever has Tori may be panicking now because this has blown up in to an international case and may do something with the girl.

Police have released a composite of the Lady believed to be the Abductor of the little girl. They said this is based on an eye witness but would say nothing more than that.

Tori Stafford has now been missing almost 3 weeks after seen leaving school with this unidentified lazy.

Police also think that someone in the family or immediate area holds a key to the Abduction and are asking for them to come foreword. Concealing evidence is just as bad as committing the crime.

Message to Tori's Abductor

This is a message to the person/people involved in the Tori Stafford Abduction.

You know what you have done is wrong and with the out pouring of support from the public it will only take time until you are caught.

It's not to late to do the right thing and release this poor scared little girl back to her family. Even if Tori knows who you are She must be scared by now and wondering why She can not go back home.

I stress, It's not to late to do the right thing and let Tori go.

The longer this carries on the harder it will be on you as well in the end.

Drop her off somewhere that She will be found, Tori needs to get back to the people that love Her. If you are family or friend who kidnapped Tori to help her out in some way you are not.
If this is an arrangement you have with the family, it's not the right thing to do. You must notify authorities and protect yourself. Child Kidnapping is not a solution to any matter.
If you are owed money for something then demand ransom, just return Tori.

Tori Stafford needs her family and friends and we all need to see Her safe return. Please do the right thing and Let Tori Go.
In the end you know will know that this is the right thing to do.

If you are reading this take a good look at that little Girl, a real good look. Think of how she is feeling right now. Everybody has a heart including yourself, some people just have trouble finding it once and a while.

Water Search Turns Up Nothing

Opp Police Dive Team have concluded that the body of Tori Stafford is not in a pond located close to the girl's home. The Police maintain that the search was just because the area was not searched using a dive team last week and they have no suspicion that that Tori is in the water.

Tori's family is still optimistic that the Girl is alive and will be found as Police are getting closer to solving this case.

Tori Stafford, 8 has now been missing for almost 2 weeks and the only clue Police are sharing is a video tape of the girl leaving with an unidentified woman. Initially Police ruled this case as criminal and not an abduction but have now reclassified it as an abduction.

The Public has mixed feelings on how the Police have handled the Tori Stafford case right from go wondering if the Public and Media were notified on time Tori may have been found.

OPP Police are now in charge of the Tori Stafford Investigation and will be revisiting old clues and tips hoping that someone will give them the information needed to resolve this Child Abduction.
As the search continues for Tori Stafford Police are asking that anyone with information please give Crime Stoppers a call. The more time that passes the harder and less chance there is of finding Tori Stafford.

Susan Boyle Inspires the World

When 48 year old Susan Boyle walked out on to the set of Britain's Got Talent (sister show to America's got Talent) everyone laughed. The audience judged her, the judges including Simon Cowell poked fun at her before she even did her thing.

Susan Boyle stated that she always wanted to be a professional singer but never really had the chance. Looking at this lady it is easy to come to the wrong conclusions, she was awkward looking, has never been kissed she told everyone really a strange person.

Then the miracle, Susan's voice. This lady attacked the song "Dreamed a Dream" , from the musical Les Miserables which is a big song for anyone to perform. Susan Boyle Nailed it with a voice so amazing it brought people to tears. All the people who started off by poking fun at Susan were now fans of the lady all within a 5 minute period. The Judges were speechless, even Simon Cowells facial expressions showed he was under her spell.

This article has nothing to do about London Ontario but really needed to be posted and shared with everyone. We live in a harsh world sometimes where people not judged by who there are as a complete package, they are judged by looks, how they talk, who they chum with and stuff like that.

Susan Boyle is an Inspiration and a real wake up call to show people that you really can't judge a book by it's cover. For a Lady who's never really fit in Susan Boyle now has her own Fan Club Website and millions of people who adore her. This is because Susan Boyle was given a chance.

Are Tori's Parents to Blame?

Tori Stafford has now been missing over a week with no sign of the 8 year old at all. As the days go on we are learning more and more about her Mother and Boyfriend.

This is Opinion only but I do feel in the end that the parents will be involved in this dissappearance. It's just the way they answer questions and behave in general.

I have an 8 year old boy and if anything ever happened to him I would be a mess. These people let on they are hurting but also have a strange calm to them.

Tori's Mother says that she knows Tori is alive because "she can feel it" and I believe she does know the where abouts and condition of the little girl.

From the beginning police held back on issuing an Amber Alert stating the case lacked some certain requirements, instead they pursued it as a criminal investigation. Being said I still think they know some information they have not shared with the public.

Regardless of who's to blame there is one thing for sure.

Dam Problems Continue

The Springbank Dam Failure has prompted the City of London to take legal action after mounting pressure placed on them to get the project finished.
The Dam Failure happened after new Hydraulic Gates were installed as part of a Rehabilitation Project.

The Dam Project started in Sept of 2006 as was to be completed by fall of 2007.

Who's to Blame?

The Dam Failure happened after the first time it was tested when one of the four gates got jammed about half way open. Now the City is seeking to find out who is to blame for the Failure and seek compensation for some of the project that is already 2.6 million dollars over budget.

The Dam Project has already ruined business for the London Canoe Club that counts on flood gate control to maintain the water level in the summer.
According to the London Free Press the Dam Building Problem will now by sorted out in Court.

Until then, the Project will drag on, the park will still be a mess and the London Canoe Club may have another dry summer.

Where is Tori Stafford?

The Tori Stafford Video that was released by Police shows the little girl walking down the street with a woman in a puffy white jacket.

There is no sign that little Tori is scared or struggling to get away. In fact she they both walk right by a man and there is another person right behind them. After watching this over and over it appears Tori is comfortable with this woman indicating there is a very good chance She is somebody in Tori's life.

This little Girl really needs to be found and there has to be someone who can help. I'm not sure who the police have spoken with but just seeing the video there are at least 2 people who saw the pair walking down the street, did they get in to a car? Maybe they went in to a house close to the school. What about the school? Someone had to be there when she left like Teachers or Staff. Think people! Maybe this person is so familiar your just not connecting her with this. Did anyone see her Mother at the school that day? What about her Aunt, Neighbour or even a Teacher?

Parents, ask you Children if they saw Tori leaving with anybody that day you know kids maybe one of them knows. Nobody can be ruled out in this disappearance and the way it's looking I would suspect it will end up being somebody very close to the girl, not a stranger.

Again, maybe you saw Tori that afternoon with someone familiar and you are thinking nothing of it, tell the police anyway just in case. For those who know the Stafford Family try ask yourself if anyone in the family has been acting unusual prior to the disappearance, Mom, Dad, Step Dad even the smallest thing may lead to finding Tori.

When last seen, Victoria (Tori) Stafford, 8, was reportedly wearing a green shirt, a black velvet pleated skirt, black-and-white shoes and a black Hannah Montana jacket with white fur-lined hood. She was carrying a purple and pink Bratz purse. The woman seen on the video walking with Victoria is described as white, 19 to 25, 5-foot-1, 120-125 pounds, with a straight black ponytail past the shoulders. She was wearing tight black jeans and a white, puffy winter jacket. Police ask anyone who thinks they may know the woman or anything about Victoria's whereabouts to call them at 519-537-2323 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Amber Alert for Tori Stafford. That's what the headlines should say but Police are still not Issuing the Amber Alert.

According to Police there is no evidence of an abduction but are calling this a criminal investigation. It doesn't make any sense to me unless they know something they are not telling the public and I really think that is the case. Even the Parents are not acting they way one would expect considering what has just happened to them.

Regardless, Issuing an Amber Alert would put everyone on guard, the girl is 8 years old there should be an Alert Issued regardless.

Jessie Davidson's Van Recovered

The van that followed Jessie and his Father John Davidson across Ontario stolen Sunday night has been found.

The good news came 2 days after Jessie noticed the van missing when going to the London Knights game against Saginaw.

The van was located in the city's east end in the parking lot of an apartment building on Admiral Dr.

Jessie was very happy with the news as he said on a telephone interview. The van is specially equipped to accommodate a wheel chair. Jessie did miss going to the London Knights game but was able to watch it on television.

Dam Leaves Canoe Club High and Dry

Almost 3 years now and the Springbank Dam Gates are still not finished leaving the London Canoe Club wondering if they will survive. The Club counts on the operation of the Springbank Dam to maintain the water level of the Thames River throughout the summer months.
Anglers are pleased with the delay of the Dam Construction stating it harms the fish run up the river.

If the City really cared about this project it would be finished by now, they just don't want to spend the money. I've seen entire neighbourhoods built in less time than this.
As for the Canoe Club I really hope they can hang on, it's a great operation. Anglers who oppose the Dam operation should keep in mind that Flood Gates are used everywhere and there are finish ladders etc to ensure fish can get to there destinations.

The City got in trouble last year for stalling on the Springbank Dam Project so hopefully they will have it completed before summer is here.

The Canoe Club should seek compensation for the years of interruption to their business and the City of London should come good for it.

Chrysler, GM Get Your Act Together!

It looks like General Motors and Chrysler better take this crisis seriously and come up with a solution before their lifeline disappears.

This problem just seems to drag on and on, one day things are looking positive and the next day they are right back to where they started.

I agree with the Government not just throwing out money without any sort of accountability from the Auto Giants. Giving these Companies money to operate the way they have been would just be prolonging their biggest issue, they need to restructure.

Employees and Management in these factories are over payed and that's plain and simple. The only people who will deny this will be Unionized Auto Workers. Everyone has to give a little to get a little or else you will all be out of jobs and then have to go out and work for real world pay.

Personally the best move for Chrysler and GM is to file for bankruptcy and start over again eliminating ridiculous expenses. Restructuring is the only way the Auto Industry will survive in Canada.

Unfortunately until this issue is resolved the smaller suppliers are laying off, going bankrupt and these poor people didn't make factory wages to begin with.

It's just a real sorry situation and I sure hope it can be resolved quickly because I am also in the industry.

Tim Best To Appear in Court

Tim Best is expected to appear in Court March 24th on numerous charges steming from a Police Chase that ended with vehicle damage,driving under the influence and other charges.

Best, Husband of London Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco and owner of Friday Knight Lights sports bar in London has been pretty low key about the incident. There has also been little comment from Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco regarding her Husband's barbaric behaviour.

The Couple have been married since 2006 in what some people call a fairytale romance.

Signs of the Times

Everywhere you turn you can see the toll of this economic crises we are in. My latest reality check came about two weeks ago when visiting Westmount Mall. We all know the Mall has been struggling for some time now but I couldn't believe how bad things were when walking through.

While we walked through the mall I started counting all the empty spaces that were once occupied by stores. Once I hit twenty I stopped counting and was just speechless.

There are not even enough stores to fill half the mall now and I am not kidding. On the upper lever there is one wing completely abandoned.

It's such a bad feeling knowing and seeing what is happening and having no control over it. Some people think this problem is just centered over the Automotive Industry but in reality there are very few jobs that are immune to this situation.

I'd like to say things are going to turn around soon but this feeling in my gut tells me the worse is yet to come.

There are some optimists that say this will be over before the end of the year, lets hope they know something we don't. For now if you have a job be thankful because a lot of people don't.

Killer Barry Manion Dead

Barry Manion Found Dead In Cell

Just 3 days after being sentenced to life in prison Barry Manion was found hanged in his cell.
Manion,61 pleaded guilty to the 1970 death of young Kathy Wilson. It was learned that prior to the death Manion had sexually abused the girl for over 2 years.

Manion's last encounter with the girl ended after she refused to perform sexual acts for Manion and then ran away screaming. Manion who was 22 at the time chased the girl in to the woods and then shook her holding his hands around Wilson's neck until she no longer moved.

"He was an evil, evil person. Now, he's going to meet his maker and burn in hell where he belongs." said Aline Wilson who is the sister of Kathrine.

Manion who was working in the Service Department at Oxford Dodge in London was escorted from the building by OPP in January and charged with Kathrine Wilson's murder. Just 3 days ago he was sentenced to life without parole for at least 10 years.

There will be an inquest held on the cause of death but sources say he was hanged in his cell.
Manion, would have turned 62 this Sunday.

Sams Club The Real Deal

Sams Club has only 6 days to go and I have to admit that I was one of the guilty ones that stopped by today and tried to find a good deal.

To be honest there are no good deals at Sams Club, none at all. Everything decent is gone already and prices are not lowered. I was surprised, here I pictured myself walking out with a flat screen TV or something like that.

Truth of the matter is that when I got there it was a sad sight. The back end of the store was pushed up about half way and most shelves were empty. Then to see the staff with their paint on smiles only knowing that it will soon be over.

Here I was trying to Capitalize off of 200 people losing their jobs, not a good feeling. After that it didn't matter what they had left, I didn't feel like shopping anymore.

There was a lady in the store crying foul because she had wasted gas to get there just to find out there were no good deals. Somebody should have given her a shake to remind her of the big picture and less of her own petty problems.

To the Workers at the London Sam's Club I'm sure I can speak on behalf of everybody and thank-you for all the great service over the years.

Gus Macker says Goodbye To London

Yet another blow to London as the organizer of the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament pulls the plug after 16 years.

The decision was personal according to Clyde Adkin."It's just time. It's too much for me to do it every year. It's pretty tough,"
The tournament which hosted over 1600 Teams at one time only had 450 last year and volunteers have also declined.

Adkin has offered his services if someone would like to step in and take over saying he would work them.

Hopefully someone will step up and save one of the few summer events left in the Forest City.
If things keep going they way they are London will lose their Tourists completely.
Mayor DeCicco better start looking into all this event dropping because soon nobody will have reason to come to London.

An Incredible Future Cut Short

What was meant to be a fun High School outing ended up tragic after Catholic Central lost one of their own.

Elisabeth Reurink 17 was killed in the slopes of Blue Mountain in Collingwood on Thursday after crashing in to a tree.

Even when someone does everything right things can still go wrong. Elisabeth had prior skiing instruction,was skiing with a teacher and wearing a helmet. It's really a sad story and hard on a great bunch of kids.

Councillors have been taking to the Students and Friends helping them deal with this devastating event.

Elisabeth was described as a wonderful person with an incredible future ahead of her.
The Flag at Catholic Central was lowered to half-mast and photos,flowers and letters were set up in the chapel along with crumpled tissues and empty Kleenex boxes.

London May Lose TV Station

Even being a city the size of London may not help when it comes to Major Cuts. Just after axing 50 jobs at London's A Station Television there is warning that the whole operation may be gone by summer.

CTV has also cancelled shows in Windsor and Barrie and warn stations may be pulled before the station licenses expire in August of this year.

These televisions operate with no subscription fees which mean that Bell, Rogers etc. can take their signal and broadcast it reaping all the financial benefits for themselves.

The London station formerly known as CFPL has been operating since 1953 as Canada's second privately owned television station.

"A" Morning Show gets Axed

Sources report that about 50 employees were given layoff notices at London Televisions "A" Station.

Along with that London's 3 hour morning show aired for the last time. Employees were in shock finding out about this within an hour of the last show.

This is just another example of how bad things are getting out there and there is more to come.

Just last fall they decided to extend the show from 2 to 3 hours because of the great ratings.

Most of the layed off employees were finished immediately following the show while a few will say on until Friday.

Personally I think "A" Channel has gone down hill ever since it was taking over a few years back. It lost the local flare that it use to have as did the London Free Press.

The Morning Show being cancelled does not shock me, though I feel bad that so many people lost their jobs.

Police Watching Red Light Runners

If it's red then you better stop because London City Police are looking for Red Light Runners. This warning comes after City Police tripled the tickets issued for running stop signs and red lights compared to the same period last year.

I've noticed London driving becoming more like Toronto, people are just to aggressive and too much in a hurry. If you think about it running a red light is very dangerous and increases your change of being involved in a traffic accident. All this for the few seconds you save not waiting at a stop. It just doesn't make any sense if you ask me.

Those drivers who do ignore red lights and end up making it through the intersection will be awarded by losing 3 demerit points along with a $180.00 fine. Drivers just have to slow down and if you find that you fall into this "red light runner" category then maybe you should allow yourself a little more time when going somewhere in the car.

Some Cities that have a problem with red light runners have installed red light camera's similar of the photo radar cameras the province experimented with. London has not gone as far but if this problem becomes any worse then camera's are possible.

CANADIAN'S WARNED OF TAX SCAM CIRCULATING

The Canada Revenue Agency is advising all Canadians to beware of a recent scam in the form of a letter or e-mail coming from the CRA asking for personal information. A copy of the letter is available at www.cra.gc.ca/alert.
The letter claims "insufficient information" on the individuals tax return and they need to update their records. There is a form or attachment they want you to fill out that includes information on passports and bank accounts.
DO NOT COMPLETE THIS LETTER, IT IS NOT FROM THE CRA. The CRA has reported it to law enforcement.

TOUGH TIMES FORCE SAM'S CLUB TO CLOSE

London will be one of six Sam's Club retail store locations closing in Ontario as owner's Wal-Mart announced yesterday.

According to Wal-Mart after dropping the Sam's retail store locations there focus will be on opening 26 of the Wal-Mart Supercenters similar to London's Hyse Park location.

Some of these Supercenters will be new while other's will just be added to existing locations. So far the only locations near London at this point are St.Thomas and Woodstock.

Sam's Club in London employs about 200 people and Wal-Mart hopes to find jobs for them at other store locations.

Like Costco, shoppers have to be part of the Sam's Membership Club in order to do business there. Membership fees were renewed yearly costing between $40-$50 depending on business or personal use. The Sam's Membership Club entitled buyers to better deals on bulk sizes of food and personal products and Sam's also had a wide variety of electronics such as TV's and Computers.

Speculation is that the building will not sit idle too long at Lowe's has expressed interest in opening at that location. Lowe's has opened 11 stores in Canada in a little over one year. Lowe's would be in competition with Home Depot and Rona.

The London Sam's Club location opened it's doors in 2004 as Wal-Mart rushed to open it before Costco opened the second location in the city.
It's just another sign of the times when you see a large chain like this calling it quits.

Tim Best Warned About Gambling

It seems that Tim Best just loves to get in to trouble. Just a day before best was arrested for DUI he was warned about card games going on at his London Establishment Friday Knight Lights.

This came after a visit from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario stopped by for an inspection warning Tim to remove the cards.

Tim Best maintains that there is no gambling in his establishment and what was witnessed was just a Bachelor Party and nothing more.

There was no comment from the Inspector who entered Friday Knight Lights Jan 30th along with two London Police. The Police Department says that the carried out a routine check.

The next night Tim Best led Police on a crazy chase that ended up in Dorchester. Best is facing several charges that include,Failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, impaired driving just to name a few. The chase left two vehicles damaged and was then followed by a foot chase as best ran away from the Police.

Tim Best is the Husband of London Ontario Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco although these days she may not want to admit that.

The Best Court Date is set for March 24th.

Labatt's Employee's Worried About Future

Labatt employees have good reason to worry after possibilities of being axed from the American market. A move that may cause layoffs and closures here in Canada. Work came from a Company Spokesperson.

Labatt USA was sold by Inbev the Belgium based owner of Labatt to KPS Capital partners.

The deal made was to include no more exporting it's Canadian made beer to the USA which will take effect in three years.

From the Canadian side losing this market will definitely impact annual production by about 20.7 million cases of beer. With this kind of loss job cuts and layoffs are imminent

London's historic Labatt's plant on Horton St began brewing in 1847.

Labatt has 7 breweries in Canada so nobody is certain if and where these cuts will take place.

Kps is also a brewer of Genesee beer.

While visiting London there are lots of things you can do
like shopping in one of their many large malls located throughout the city. Enjoy some of the historic sites like the Middlesex County Courthouse,Delta Armouries,Eldon House,Fanshawe Pioneer Village and more.
In the heart of London you will find beautiful 18 acre Victoria Park filled with nice walking paths, a band shell for many of the events and festivals that take place and Army Equipment displays. In the winter everyone is welcome to come out skating on the City's free to use ice rink located right in front of the band shell.

If you like to eat out and try different things then London is for you. They have a great selection of Unique Restaurants to choose from. Specialty Restaurants can be found within walking distance of each other along Richmond St or Richmond Row as most people know it.
There are so many great places that deserve mention that I don't know where to start! Aroma's European Cuisine, Under the Volcano for great Mexican, Waldo's on King for Steak to die for, Michael's on the Thames for that special romantic occasion. There are so many, I'm still working on them.

London Ontario plays home to many great Festivals.

Unfortunately due to financial problems London has lost their International Airshow, Rib Fest and Balloon Festival which I really hope can return to the City someday.
Theatre buffs can take in the Grand Theatre while visiting there is always something going on.

The younger crowd will enjoy the huge Bar Scene in the City a favourite for the University of Western Ontario Students.

The addition of the John Labatt Centre has been a big boost to London's Entertainment Scene. The JLC opened in 2002 and is home of the City's Hockey Team the London Knights. Many Headline Acts have visited the Labatt Centre like Bon Jovi,Cher,Elton John,Billy Joel to name a few. There are also Monster Trucks,Disney Ice Shows for the whole family to enjoy.

There are so many reasons you should visit London Ont, the Forest City and I really encourage you to come and discover yours!

We've Had Enough Winter!!!

It's been a long hard winter and Londoners have had enough. Even as this letter is being typed the white stuff is still falling to the ground. For the handful who do enjoy the snow you better get out while you can. Good news there is a break coming later in the week as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.

I'm not a winter person at all so good riddance to this crap. It is also fact that during the winter season depression climbs, health decreases so what good is it? There is nothing like a white Christmas don't get me wrong but after that GOODBYE!

Driving around the City I can already see where winter has taken its toll. Road Conditions in the city are horrible, worse than they already were to begin with. Mayor DeCicco really has to look in to improving the roads all over London, not funding a non profitable Orchestra. When visitors come to the Forest City we don't want them to leave saying "I needed a wheel alignment after being in London"

The tree's also got pretty beaten up this winter with all the high winds and freezing rain, I think spring clean up will be a busier than normal time for everyone.

So London, a few more weeks and you will start to smell the grass again, listen to the robins sing, get the power washer out and get rid of all that sand and dirt everywhere. People can get the trailers and tents ready, clean off the BBQ because even though it may not seem like it now

SHALENEA TURNBALL GUILTY

Shalenea Turnball was found guilty in a London Courtroom today from charges relating to the hit and run death of Tony Degraw 25 of Newbury. Turnball stuck Degraw in the early hours of the morning January 1, 2007 after leaving a party, she had been drinking.

Turnball claimed She knew that she had stuck something on the road but thought it was an animal and failed to stop at the scene then continued home and parked the vehicle in the garage. She eventually turned herself into police.

Although the exact blood alcohol content was not determined there were many witnesses reporting her drinking various drinks throughout the night. After arguing with her common-law spouse he left in his vehicle and then She took off after him. This was her story.

At this time the exact charges are not known but will be posted as soon as the information because available.

SHALENEA TURNBALL KNEW SHE HIT SOMETHING

The trial of Shalenea Turnball has begun. The Glencoe woman has been charged after the hit and run death of Tony Degraw 25 was struck walking along Dundonald Rd Jan 1st 2007. She has pleaded not guilty.

She was at a New Years Party Drinking, got in her vehicle, drove home, hit someone and then hid the vehicle in the garage. That sure sounds guilty to me! People have to take responsibility for their actions. This lady is 25 years old, should know enough not to drink and drive and now she has killed somebody. That's pretty black and white if you ask me.

Like every other case I'm sure the courts will drag this one out as well as the press while the Degraw family suffer even more. It stated in the London Free Press that Turnbull had been drinking and then got into an argument with her common-law spouse, he left and she went to find him. Who cares, guilty! If I was driving and thought I hit something I would make sure I knew what I hit, why didn't she turn around?

There are so many questions this lady needs to answer, it just doesn't make sense. I'm pretty sure she knew she hit a person, was scared, knew she was drinking so she went home and hid the vehicle. We'll see who's right soon!

ATM BANKING SCAM HITS LONDON

ATM Scam Investigation

ATM Banking Scams are now in London as city police are investigating 3 businesses. The three unnamed businesses came forward after noticing that the Pin Pads on the ATM's had been tampered with. Although there have been no fraud victims come forward as of yet the investigation is ongoing.

This falls shortly after ATM skimming was found in Stratford where over 40,000 people had lost money from their bank accounts. Police do have suspects in that the Stratford case.

The three London incidents were reported in a two day period and city police do not know if they are connect at this point or not.

Protect Yourself From ATM Fraud

make sure nobody is close to you when entering your pin

watch the clerk if for some reason they have to swipe your card

check the ATM pin pad, look for signs of tampering or anything odd looking about it

call police right away if you suspect a problem

never give your pin number to anybody EVER

If you are a victim of an ATM theft banks will insure the stolen money so don't worry to much. What thieves are doing are replacing ATM pin pads with pads that read your card number and pin number that you type in. They will then pick up these pads that have your personal information stored and transfer it to black ATM cards that they have in possession.

Personally, I think we will be hearing a lot more about ATM theft it's only a matter of time. We may all have to go back to using banks and tellers again and paying cash for purchases we make. One thing you can count on with thieves is that they will always find a way, it just takes time.

The End of The Story for Storybook Gardens?

It's not a surprise to anyone that London's Storybook Gardens is in financial trouble and it has been for years. City Councillor Joni Baechler recommended that the City look into closing Storybook Gardens. In 2003 the park had a 7 million dollar overhaul that didn't help at all. In my opinion and I have said before " Storybook Gardens lost it's direction" even though it held on to it's name the park is a mess. You have a water park, slides, skating and a zoo which is ok but very little of the park has to do with fairy tales.

To revamp a park the way the City did, they should have given it a new identity because people are going expecting one thing and coming out feeling let down. When I go to Storybook with my 2 boys they run past everything directly to the back of the park where there is a large play area, they don't like the water park(to cold) they don't look at the animals at all. These are the attractions that cost a lot of money to keep up. If my children went thinking they are going to a zoo then they would be geared up to see animals, this park has no theme anymore.

I'll have to admit sadly, maybe it is time to close the old park down. Just like Orchestra London, you can't keep bailing water out of a sinking ship because eventually it will sink. So Joni, you may not be to popular right now but you are right, London does need a new plan dealing with Storybook Gardens and soon.

Kids can go to Harris Park a use the water park for free and Londoners know that. Half the animals in the Storybook Zoo you can see walking through a forest. As for the rides, I admit the big slide is cool but truth of the matter is it's all just park equipment which kids can play on anywhere. In a nutshell people are paying a lot of money for............nothing. That's why the attendance keeps dropping and dropping.

Like all fairy tales, they do have to come to an end and maybe it's time for Storybook Gardens to follow suit. My memories of the park from childhood will always be fond ones as others will agree. It's a nice park and could be used for many things but I recommend whatever you do London, pick a theme and stick with it. Don't try to be the "everything park" because you really don't have a target audience when you do that.

"Best Friend" Gets Off The Hook

The London Free Press is taking a lot of heat over the handling of the Time Best Story. Best, the husband of London Mayor Anne Marie CeCicco faces numerous charges including failing to remain at the scene, driving while intoxicated causing bodily harm just to name a few.
Being a well know figure in London like Tim Best is you would think the story would have great significance, I would anyway. Paul Berton of the London Free Press must have felt otherwise and put his friends story on the third page of the paper. Paul has taken a lot of heat for this decision but stands by it.

This is a very serious case and I believe this qualifies as front page material considering the Mayor has been so tight lipped about it someones got to report what's going on.
Tim is best known for his Sports Bar Friday Knight Lights which you will also find Anne Marie working on occasion, maybe even more now. Up until now their story seemed like such a fairytale but this one may not have a happy ending.

It will be interesting to see how the Mayor deals with the embarrassing and very serious situation. In a position like Anne Marie's bad press like this may destroy her. Or maybe Anne Marie will part ways with Tim and continue to lead the Forest City.
There are so many different directions this may unfold but the London Free Press assures us that they will be there covering it every step of the way, lets just hope they give it the press it deserves next time.

Maybe if Tim was my friend I would do the same thing and try to cause him as little damage as I could........no, I'd roast him! So Paul, next time you do a story on one of your buddies and don't feel you can handle it why not pass it on to somebody who can. If you were the Police officer that finally got him would you have let him go because he's Tim Best the Mayor's Husband?

IKEA London is Just a Dream.....For Now

My favourite furniture store IKEA will not be coming to London anytime soon. According to a spokesman an IKEA London location may be a possibility in the future. To be honest I was surprised they would pass up the forest city. With the new Tepperman location, Bad Boy etc there must be a good market for that business. This means a few more years of that long drive to Hamilton or Toronto if you want to shop at your favourite Swedish Furniture Store. IKEA has 11 stores in Canada right now, 286 across the world and there had been a lot of talk about an IKEA London location. Don't give up though London, things can happen. Maybe after this financial crisis ends and everyone gets back on their feet IKEA will take another look and make the right decision next time. I'll keep driving because I love IKEA and their very unique products.

London College of Healthcare and Technology Leaves Students Hanging

London Students Left Hanging

The London College of Healthcare and Technology shocked it's 46 dental students when they found the doors to the school locked last Friday noting the School was officially closed.Students are now left trying to completed their education, some with only four week left to completion and all wondering about the $30,000 tuition paid for the 18 month coarse.There has been no comment from Robert Hodge, the owner and Toronto based Dentist as of yet. The College opened in 2007 in the former Mount St. Joseph center.
The Staff of the College have also expressed concern saying they are still owed a months wages. At this point nobody really knows what is going to happen. Private Schooling has been a popular route for many trying to get ahead in specialized areas and up until now has been pretty reliable.

Tim Best May Be In More Trouble

Unconfirmed reports say the Tim Best may have good reason to drink away his pain. Best, the owner of Friday Knight Lights sports bar in London has apparently been under a lot of financial stress with the bar losing thousands of dollars. Again, there has been no confirmed report of this but sources are pretty reliable. This would also explain the need for Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco to be putting in the hours she has working at Friday Knight Lights.
Tim Best led police on quite a chase starting on the 401 by Dorchester, smashing in to 2 vehicles causing bodily injury and ending things off trying to run away for police on foot. Tim Best will appear in court on March 24 of this year. Mayor Anne-Marie has been pretty quiet about the whole thing and has comment no further than thanking people for their support.
Mayor DeCicco married Best in 2006 and up until now had seemed like the kind of relationship that everyone would want. Only time will tell if they will survive this together or maybe Anne-Marie will cut her ties with Best in hopes to remain in high standings with Londoners.

Mayor DeCicco's Husband In Hot Water
She may be wondering these days if she made the "Best" choice these days as Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco's husband Tim Best has some explaining to do. Mr Best faces a slew of charges after a weekend of destruction leaving damaged vehicles, people in hospital and great embarrassment to the Mayor. Timothy Best, 47, has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and two other related charges.

Things are pretty hush,hush at city all as the mayor has not commented on this escapade involving Tim. One thing for sure, Mr Best will be enjoying at least a year on foot as a license suspension is for sure. Truthfully I once admired this Guy, Tim is well known in the town, a good business man and of coarse the Mayor's Husband and then he does something stupid like this. Will this be the end of the fairytale relationship that everyone has admired since the two were married? Will Tim Best go fame local fame to Jailbird? Until March nobody really knows but one thing is for sure, I bet Tim has been spending most of his nights on the couch!

Raymond Trudell The Truth Comes Out

Well it looks like Mrs. Trudell may have to keep working after all. In a statement of defence to a $3.7-million lawsuit filed by Raymond Trudell’s family in October, the board says Trudell was “verbally abusing” and “deliberately provoked” another pupil before he was injured Sept. 23, 2008.

There's always to sides to a story and it's finally nice to hear the other. Kids are kids, it's very unfortunate it happened but it did and the board is not at fault. The idea of suing for a kids scuffle in the playground is crazy. Forgive people, you are Catholic. I'm sure the other child has gone through enough punishment with this media circus going on.

The lunch supervisors do a great job considering most of them are volunteers. If you look at the number ratio of coarse they can not watch over every child, it's impossible. Children should be taught at home about how to stay out of trouble and verbally abusing people is not the way. Maybe the board should go after the parents, verbal abuse is a form of bullying is it not?

My point is that this is unfortunate and my heart does go out to Raymond and I do wish him a speedy recovery but that's it. This is a case involving Children and they learn by their errors. There is no fault on the School Board, it's just not right. The Trudell's story doesn't really seem to hold water in many points they had made. Play the Lotto if you want a chance at a large sum of money and DON"T USE YOU KIDS!

Save Storybook Gardens London

Well here we are again hearing about more money needed to keep up the operation of London's Storybook Gardens. It has become evident now that the big Storybook Gardens overhaul a few years back did not help at all, it just put the park even further in debt.
I have great memories of the park from my childhood it was almost magical and fairytales really did come to life at the park. I've taken my kids to Storybook Gardens a few times and I think I know why the park is not doing well. It seems that London has lost the focus on what Storybook Gardens was and meant to the people who attended the park. Now it seems to have no real theme. There is a merry-go-round outside the park entrance, there a spiderweb, slide, splash pad, animals and a whole bunch of things but no theme. There a a few reminders from the past sort of off the path like an oil bridge, shoe and other things but it's just not the same.
London could revive the park a few different ways

Get back on coarse and make the park true to the name, failytales never loose their value. Forget using bigger attractions to gain attendance if people want that they go to East Park. Keep Storybook Gardens simple, fun and family oriented and it will survive.
If you don't want to stay on theme then rename it. A new identity not only give a fresh start but a chance to separate from the fairytale theme and take on a more modern approach. It would be a shame to see the Storybook Gardens theme gone but it is also a shame to keep reading about how poor it is doing.

One thing for sure London must really focus on Storybook Gardens and try to pull it from it's financial slump. Raising admission, paying to park is not the way to do it. These plans of attack will eventually turn Storybook in to a ghost town and that's not a good theme to go with.

London is an amazing city full of amazing people and places. I'm sure if everyone put there heads together a solution can be found.

How Do I Fit In? Avoiding Bullying and Teasing

Trying to fit in and being bullied are things all children face. These are also areas that children with Aspergers struggle with daily. In his book "Aspergers and Girls" Tony Atwood discusses the topics of bullying and teasing. Although he discusses the interactions between girls in this book much of the material still applies to boys as well.
One trait with Aspergers is the inability to analyze social situations, read facial cues, or even be aware when situations aren't as they might appear to be. Joking and sarcasm are often misunderstood and taken literally. These social cues can be learned by people with Aspergers but usually don't come intuitively. Teaching using social stories, watching movies and commercials and even "people watching" in public can help show social situations and what facial cues and body language are being used between people. When trying to make friends and fit in teaching body language is essential. They must learn what clues are saying "I am friendly" or "don't bother talking to me". They also should be aware of their own body language to know how to look approachable and friendly. Observe their interactions with others and discuss privately what may be inappropriate and what may be more appropriate in the future.
In Tony Atwood's book "Aspergers and Girls" he lists a few books that can help in explaining fitting in, making friends, bullying, teasing, and more. Some are the award-winning American Girl books called "The Smart Girl Guide to Friendship Troubles", "Guide to Sticky Situations" and "Guide to Middle School". Another book is called "Queen Bees and Wannabees" which the movie "Mean Girls" was based on.
Bullying can sometimes be relentless and is really intimidating. Obviously there is physical bullying but can also include gossiping, rumor spreading and cattiness. The Aspergers child may be totally unaware of the bullying or what it means. This can change at any time though. Other times they are completely aware but lack the social skills to know how to handle the situation correctly. Many can begin acting out at others, cry, turn inward, act childish, or become depressed. Many times they will not report bullying and teasing because of their inability to deal with the situation. They are needing help but may be unsure how to get it because they are not able to fully explain the situation. Asking children/teens about their friendships, daily interactions and even directly asking if anyone is teasing or bullying them is something parents and teachers need to do often.
Teasing is usually about something the recipient is insecure with or in this situation about a disability. Teasing can also be relentless and cause humiliation. Gossiping usually accompanies teasing and turn into rumors that can become hard to clear up or stop.
Explain when teaching social skills that those who bully, tease or gossip are trying to bring attention to themselves at the expense of someone else. They may have self esteem issues, want to build "power "for themselves, establish status and respect out of fear, or just be insecure. Also give them ways to receive help if they are being bullied or teased. They should always feel comfortable talking with their parents. Establish with teachers and school administrators your concerns so they can watch for problems and also be available to talk to. Depending on the situation parents of the other children may need to be called for a discussion and be made aware of the events.
We have been fairly fortunate with our Aspergers daughter. She is in advanced classes at school which means every year she ends up with the same advanced classes students. They have had time to get to know her and her quirks. Teachers have even reported these students stand up for her and watch out for her. They have been observed gently aiding or correcting her when needed. She has had a few minor situations with teasing/bullying which have been dealt with by school administrators. Our doctor made us aware that although she does not display depression now as she grows and becomes more aware of the social atmosphere around her she very well could become depressed as many Aspergers children do. Watching and monitoring her social interactions closely, discussing her feelings, and teaching social skills is the key.

Children Who Are Victims of Bullying - What Can Parents Do to Help?

It can be tempting when we discover that our child is being bullied at school to rush in with our sword blazing to save our poor victimized 'baby'.
Unfortunately this does not do much for the self-esteem of our child. In fact it simply reinforces the idea that they are powerless and that someone else has to come and save them.
So the first step in addressing the whole bully issue is to realise that your job as a parent is to support your child in developing the mindset and strategies to overcome their fear, as opposed to rushing in to make things better.
Before we can do this we also need to be more informed with what is actually going on at school. We can do this by asking our child questions such as:
a) Who is doing the bullying?
b) What are they doing?
c) What does your child do before and after they are bullied?
You can also make some quiet enquiries at school to ask the teachers if they've noticed anything. It's important this is done in no-fuss kind of way. The last thing we want to do is to inflame the situation any further and make it a "big deal".
Once we're fully informed we can then start looking at our own limiting beliefs around our child and being bullied. Simply get a piece of pen and paper and see what comes out. If you find any beliefs that do not serve you or your child, choose to let them go. You can use the tips contained in the Transforming Limiting Beliefs e-book to support you in this process. If you don't already have the book it can be downloaded on The Liberated Parent web page.
Likewise you can look at your limiting beliefs about your self as a parent e.g. What does it mean about me as a parent if my child is being bullied at school? And finally you can look at your and your child's limiting beliefs about 'the bully'.
Having let these limiting beliefs go, replace them with beliefs that will empower both you, your child and the bully. You can share these empowering beliefs with your child e.g. I am powerful and worthy of respect. You can then support your child to practice feeling these empowering beliefs at a10 out of 10 while visualizing 'the bully'.
Once you address these beliefs look at strategies to support your child such as coaching them on their posture, eye contact and assertive language they can use with aggressors e.g. "It's not okay for you to" .... "Stop ..... ." You can actually role play this until you feel your child's conviction and power coming through. It's important to teach your child to respond assertively to undesirable behavior as opposed to just "ignoring" the bully, which nine times out of ten simply encourages the bully to continue.
Encouraging your child to take up a martial art or a physically demanding sport will also build their physical self-confidence and ability to stand up for themselves. Finally take a look at what's happening around the home in terms of how family members are treating one another. If you notice yourself or other people in the family being belittled or victimized make a conscious effort to address this.

I was really surprised hearing all the damage that the first "freak" winter storm had caused in London Ontario last week. People with no power for days, tree branches fallen all over the place. Living outside of London now I don't always get into the city but this weekend I did. After enjoying an amazing breakfast buffett at the Delta Armouries we decided to take a walk throught town. We were walking down Dundas St and my Son noticed something strange. I looked up and saw the big orange eye sore that was suppose to be a tree I guess. After looking down the street I saw another and another. Hoping this was just a joke I was told that London was sporting these "everlasting trees" and what a shame, the Forest City has gone metal. Do they look nice....no, Are they cheap....I doubt it. My question is why would you want these silly things in your town which is known as the forest city? If anyone has an answer please let me know!

The First Winter Storm

Well today has been exiting as London and surrounding area has had the first snow storm of the year. If you are like me you got out to the car and had no snow brush, no shovel handy and just not prepared to deal with the white stuff. For some unfortunate people they woke up with no electricity while others had tree branhes blocking the driveway. Whatever the scenario one thing is for sure, winter is on the way!
I wrote this blog today as a plea to everybody on the road, SLOW DOWN. It's not summer anymore, you can not speed,pass and handle corners like you are on a racetrack because it's slippery out there. The ditches were littered with cars as they are every year when the first significant snow storm hits. It's amazing how logic doesn't kick in when these people get into the car. If the ground is slippery to walk on then driving on it will be no better. For the body shop owners this is one of the best times of the year because all these meatheads who don't know how to drive are smashing up their vehicles.

Here are some no brainers for people who need help
- Is cold, it's slippery so slow down
- leave a little earlier, racing to work because you are late is a certain date with the ditch
- bring a cell phone, blanket in case you get stranded
- if it get's to bad then pull over,take a break
- if you spot problems call 911
